Boy, 16+ sleeps late due to Class Chaletlee ang yun, SingaporeLocal authorities has reported increasing cases of youth/teenagers staying up pass 11pm without parental consent. This despite the fact that local Police are now cracking down on teens staying out in public areas beyond 11pm. However, with new laws in placed, teens are now instead staying up late, spending their time on MSN chat networks, discussing upcoming class outings.
One such example would be the case of a 16 year old who was nabbed red handed staying up till close to 2am, discussing whether or not satay should be bought for his class chalet. Local authorities has since alerted his parents. They were reluctant to be named but comment that they are very furious with their child's behaviour and wish that authorities will do more to prevent such cases from repeating nationwide.
Such response has also result in the next parliament agenda to include major discussion about new laws regulating those 18 and below enterin MSN after 9pm. The "Ministry" of Community Development and Sports told reporters that it was now in discussion with local broadband providers, on controlling local Internet users, by requiring them to sign in with their NRIC. Thus, allowing the service provider to ban them from using MSN after 9pm.
This move has gotten mixed responses. One blogger said "this ruling is gonna change my life so much. suicide would be my only option." while most parents were very happy with the move and said this would definitely make Singapore youth a much better bunch.
When all this comes in place. We sure look forward to seeing lesser of such Blog Entries around.
